How we destroy a kid's love of reading

Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal (  is a funny but pointed site whose genius author/illustrator, Zach Weiner, has his finger on the pulse of society’s foibles and sins.  This cartoon strip shows (doesn’t tell) how we crush the little spark of interest in reading when kids are still young.

I’d be interested to know what you think.

Thanks Gabi. This really brings us back to one of the most importat roles of parenting . . . read, read, read to, and with your child. Let the child dictate the books, and it’s important not to edit their choices. We read non-fiction to our 3-year-old son, such as THE 200 YEAR HISTORY OF FORT TICONDERGA because that was what he was interested in. To this day he is an avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction, and can conceptualize, frame his thoughts, and communicate complex topics.
